Referred to as the King of morning raags, it is a very common and well known raag. According to a myth, Raag Bhairon was the first rag. It is said that it emanated directly from the face of Shiva. According to the late Hayat Ahmed Khan, the morning Azaan in the Holy Kaaba is given in Raag Shudh Bhairon. The performance for this raag is solemnly serious. The raag comes across as a musical entity with mood of meditation, philosophical depth and emotional richness.
