Ustad Hamid Ali Khan’s singing is clearly influenced by his late father Ustad Akhtar Hussain Khan. He has the same unrestrained style, sense of drama and flair and a command over raags which he sings in typical Patiala Gharana style. Ustad Hamid Ali Khan’s singing draws the listener into a different world with wonderful melodies and a soothing and calming voice. He is renowned for his thumri and ghazal singing but he is an equally proficient khayal singer.

Ustad Hamid Ali Khan is the current flag-bearer of the Patiala Gharana. He is the recipient of the All Pakistan Music Conference (APMC) Lifetime Achievement Award, the Pride of Performance and Sitara e Imtiaz awarded by the Government of Pakistan.

Ustad Hamid Ali Khan is the direct descendent of the founder of the Patiala Gharana. He is the Ustad Akhtar Hussain Khan, the grandson of ‘General’ Ali Baksh Khan, and the great grandson of Mian Kallu Jee, the founder of the Patiala Gharana. He received his primary music education from his father.

Ustad Hamid Ali Khan is the father of Nayab Ali Khan, Inam Ali Khan and Wali Hamid Ali Khan.
